The New School of Music offers instruction for children and adults alike of all abilities. Founded in 1976 by celebrated composer Nicholas van Slyck, the school’s mission is to share music with the community. The school offers private and group music classes in Cambridge in almost all disciplines, including voice, strings, piano, wind, folk and world music, and more.

The school even offers music programs for babies and toddlers, so children can learn the love of music at an early age. Lessons for instruments begin at age four for piano and violin. Children and adults can take group or private lessons, and perform in monthly recitals to showcase their talents. No previous experience is necessary, just start with beginner lessons. It’s easy to learn music at Cambridge’s The New School of Music. They even make lessons affordable to everyone, offering partial scholarships with application to create an atmosphere of community music.

Faculty members at the New School of Music are experienced musicians and teachers. Many have multiple graduate degrees, and some are internationally acclaimed and are recording artists. All have a passion for translating their love of music to others.

One of the prominent features of the New School of Music is its concert series. Occurring every second Wednesday, the concerts vary from chamber music to guitar, and often feature New School faculty. Children are always welcome.
