Hasty Pudding Theatricals has a rich, unique history. Started by a group of passionate and fun young men in 1795, the Student Society required each member to provide in turn “a pot of hasty pudding for every meeting.” This is the origin of the theatre’s name, simple and playful. The Hasty Pudding was originally exclusive for club members, but became public as their popularity increasingly grew, and even captured national attention for their outstanding productions.
As a Harvard theatrical student society, the Hasty Pudding Theatricals is famous for their wealth of student talents in producing and presenting burlesque musicals. It is also the oldest collegiate theater in the country. Since the Hasty Pudding was founded in 1844, student-written theater has been presented and well-received every year with the only exception being periods of war.
