One of the great comedy clubs in the Boston area, The Comedy Studio, located in Harvard Square, brings innovative comedians to Cambridge and has been ranked a “must visit” for budding comedians and those looking for a laugh. According to the founders, the Studio began when they looked around, and thought, “Wow, we could use a new twist on this.” Thus, The Comedy Studio was born.
The Studio is famous for attracting high-profile producers, such as those from NBC, to look for entertaining writers and performers for the network. Owner Rick Jenkins welcomes this, and arranges the acts according to the producer’s needs.
The Comedy Studio offers shows every Tuesday through Sunday, with a wide range of performers, from recent graduates to established comedians, including Brian Kiley, a writer for “The Conan O’Brien Show.” Comedians perform for an average of 5-7 minutes.
Ticket prices for the shows range from $8-$12, depending on the night, and can conveniently be purchased online. Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday ticket prices are $12, while Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday tickets cost $8. Most shows do sell out, so it is advised to buy your tickets ahead of time. Pre-sale of tickets also allows you to select your own seat as well. Large groups of 9 or more are not admitted, no matter how well-meaning, excluding Tuesday nights.
The Tuesday show is named the “Mystery Lounge Magic Show” and at 10 years, is the longest running magic show in New England.
The Comedy Studio also remains very interactive online, as it provides a message board where audience members and those interested in comedy can interact with the comedians.
All ages are admitted, however parents should be advised that the Comedy Studio does not control what the comedians may say.
