The American Repertory Theatre (The A.R.T.) is the only non-profit theatre in Cambridge Massachusetts (and in the U.S., for that matter) that maintains a resident acting company together with an international training conservatory. The A.R.T. was founded in 1980, and has performed in 83 cities domestically as well as 16 foreign countries. This professional theater is dedicated to performing American plays with their own refreshing interpretations. It is a famous place in Cambridge for both its outstanding casts and crew and their amazing work in the many theater events they produce.
The A.R.T. has garnered many national awards including The Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award. It has also been named one of the top three theaters in the country by Time Magazine. The theatre is housed in Harvard’s Loeb Drama Center, and has an association with Harvard University. If you are looking for quality performance art, the A.R.T. is one of the top places to go in Massachusetts.
If you’d like to know more about the A.R.T. check out “The Lively ART: Twenty Years of the American Repertory Theatre”. The publisher describes this hardcover thus: ”Here is a treasury of criticism, reflection, observation, and insight from the ART’s post-production symposia, and pre-show talks, illustrated with photographs and drawings from ART archives.”
